Misleading…perhaps…interesting…for sure. Okay, so it’s been a long week at school so I though I’d take a lighter tone for Friday’s post. Here a few pics I got from Yahoo.com of LeBron’s Bike-a-Thon. Now I am not exactly sure what LeBron is doing, but LeBron Jr. seems to be having a ball. That probably has a lot do with the fact that he’s wearing some high top Chucks. You can see them much better in the second picture. So maybe someday when LeBron Jr. is old enough to hoop for cash, he can take the court in the Star and Chevron of Converse.

Who knows, maybe Nike has realized that LeBron’s line won’t ever justify the amount of money they signed him for. So maybe they’re making plans to have LeBron be the face of Converse and are using LeBron Jr. to help introduce the idea. Okay, all joking aside, I still think it’s pretty cool to see him in some Chucks. Thanks for following the Converse Blog, don’t forget we’re that we’re on Twitter so follow us already. @TheConverseBlog.

Welcome to the Converse Blog’s Friday Flashback. Today’s post is a unique Canvas converse shoe from way back in the day. It features a two stripe pattern on the upper with a extra layer of Rubber with the V logo. It almost looks like an outrigger that you see on Converse shoes today. It has a strong looking rubber toe cap like you would find on Chucks. However, it features a sturdy extra ankle padding. Aside from the arrangement of the upper there isn’t really anything I haven’t seen in some form on a Converse shoe before.

However, the outsole is where this shoe’s uniqueness really shines. It features a honeycomb pattern, which is now mostly associated with Reebok. I think it would be safe to say that these shoes predate the existence of Reebok as a company. I don’t know what any of that means, but I find it interesting.

Good and happy Friday to each and everyone of you. It’s been a crazy a few days for me and I am glad to get back to posting on the blog. I still can’t say what went down, I just don’t want to jinx it, but I hope by Monday that I can speak about it. Before we get to the blog I’ve got to post some bad news. If you haven’t heard by now, Derrick Rose signed a contract with Adidas the other day. Now I don’t know how serious a chance that Converse had to sign Rose, but I really had my hopes up. At the end of the day it has now been 17 years since Converse signed the #1 draft pick. This hasn’t always been a bad thing (Kwame Brown), but I do hope it’s a streak that can end next year. Now, let’s get back to the blog and today’s Friday Flashback.

Uh-hu, that’s right. For those of you that didn’t know, Converse used to make Golf Shoes. I don’t know for sure how old these are, they come in a box that I’ve never seen before. One thing I love about these shoes is that they actually have “Chucks” in the name. I’ve never seen that before either. Enjoy the rest of the pics.

So that is what a Converse golf shoe looked like then, I’d love to see what one would look like today. Either way these are a gem and I hope you enjoyed them. Now to speak on the current poll. Maurice Evans recently signed a contract with Golden State, one of the teams that I didn’t put in the poll. He was coming from that Orlando Magic, which already had a Converse player on the team in Jameer Nelson. So I should have put Golden State on the poll, ah you live and you learn. However, Boston looks to be pulling away a little bit from LA. Which only makes sense when you consider where Converse is based. That’s it for today, thanks for stopping in and checking out the blog.

Happy 4th of July, which is without question the most important American Holiday. The only problem is, July 2nd 1776 is the actual day that the Continental Congress actually voted for independence. The written Declaration of Independence was dated July 4 but wasn’t actually signed until August 2. Fifty-six delegates eventually signed the document, although all were not present on that day in August. By the way, I put in an application for a social studies teaching position yesterday. I don’t know what that means for the blog, maybe I’ll just have to post at night. Anyway….today’s flashback is all about the Red, White, and Blue!

I am not sure the shoe(s) that Michael Jordan is wearing hear, but I do know that they have a Chevron and they do have Star and that makes them Converse. I can’t think of shoe brand that is any more American than Converse and I am going to wear my pair of Chucks today, the ones with the American flag on them.

I am flying out to Orlando tomorrow for a week of vacation and I can’t wait. I am going to hit up at least two Converse outlet stores. We’re going to the Tampa Bay Rays game on Sunday and I might try to get to the Converse store outside of Tampa, but we’ll see. This means two things, I probably won’t be able to post any pics from the summer league or give any updates on Rose, Beasley, or any other rookie signings by Converse. I am going to just future post some pictures for the rest of the week, I didn’t really plan ahead enough so you’ll just have to stop in and see what’s up.

Happy Monday! Today I’ve got a real treat, the Converse Pro Leather Canvas. Granted that sound really weird to say, you know the whole leather/canvas thing. There are obvious difference between them, but I can’t think of another way to describe it. They are canvas with Chucks midsole and outsole, but with a canvas Pro Leather designed upper. Confused yet? Me too, so maybe I should just get to the pics.

A few years ago there were Canvas Weapons in much of the same fashion. Here are some more samples below. These pics have sample tags on them so I am not sure if they will actually be releasing. I found them on eBay.de, but the auction has since ended so I can’t link to it.

There are some pretty obvious differences between the Weapon SB and the normal Weapon. Most noticeably the midsole and out sole appear to be more like Chucks. Also the Y bar isn’t really a Y. I wish there were more pictures but that’s all I could find. I hope these find their way here soon.
